Spreading Happiness in Schools
Over the past 8 weeks, I've had the joy and honour of working with an incredible primary school in Dalston, running an after school club with children and their parents.
Together we explored our 'internal weather' and 'the garden of our mind'. We learned the power of meditation and yoga and how to make friends with our mind and emotions.
We created gratitude trees together and it was heartwarming to keep getting asked for more and more paper hearts, as there were so many things to be grateful for.
We made cards of kindness for ourselves and others and it was beautiful to see the early seeds of self-compassion blooming and the amount of cards that got written. There was a brother and sister in the class and they were bickering as they arrived into the club and by the end of it, they had made each other a beautiful card, sharing how much they loved each other.
We made glitter calm jars and explored all of the different characters that can show up in the mind. And how we can be the curious observer of the mind and our emotions. Through a lense of kindness, curiosity and non-judgment.
I felt like my heart was going to burst on multiple occasions during the after school club, there were so many heart-warming moments.
The feedback was beautiful and very moving, to hear how gratitude and meditation was becoming daily habits in family homes. The joy the cards of kindness had spread, and most of all, the moments of peace, joy and connection cultivated in ourselves, with each other and with the children and their parents.
If anybody would like us to come into their school, we'd love to. Just drop us a message to say hello - we'd love to connect.
